Halloween bash with Nightwatchers!!!

OK – to say Marley and I are STOKED to be a part of this would be a gross understatement! Join us this October 9′th at the historic St Augustine Lighthouse along with Todd Sheets from Nightwatch Radio and the fans of Nightwatchers Events.

You’ll probably remember the St. Augustine Lighthouse.  It became internationally famous when it was featured in an episode of the first season of “Ghost Hunters”.

While I’ve been to St. Augustine and seen the lighthouse from afar, I’ve never been inside, or conducted an investigation.

Is the St. Augustine Lighthouse haunted? Come with us and Nightwatchers and find out for yourself in St. Aug this October!!

Visit http://www.nightwatchers.info and click on the INVESTIGATE link for tickets and info to this event and all the other amazing NightWatchers events!

Marley and I look forward to joining the Nightwatchers crew, and we hope to see YOU with us in St. Augustine this October!!

The New Project

I’ve been teasing my friends and fans on Twitter and Facebook for the past few weeks with this, and its time to spill the beans!

As many of you know, 2009 was a very busy year for myself and my companion, paranormal author Marley Gibson. We’ve been traveling extensively over the past 12 months – sometimes on the road for 2 or more months at a time.   As Marley and I recently reflected back on 2009, we also took a look forward to 2010 and beyond.

In our busy travels while driving to different events last year and visiting friends and family, we realized that living on the road so much, we had a unique opportunity to visit reportedly haunted locations all across the continent- especially obscure locations off the beaten path that maybe haven’t been thoroughly explored in the past.

We also thought since we’re visiting these places, wouldn’t it be cool to document our adventures on video and share them with the world?

So we got thinking about an ambitious media project to kick off the new decade!   And its a project we want YOU to be a part of!

This spring, Marley and I plan to embark on a roadtrip that will take us all across North America to visit and document allegedly haunted locations from coast to coast. The working title for our project is “GHOST HOUNDS: On The Road, On The Hunt”. Our ambitious (and some might say insane) goal is to film, edit and premiere a new video podcast or “vodcast” episode each week.

The plan is pretty straight forward – visit at least one new allegedly haunted location every week; profiling its history and reported paranormal activity, play actual documented evidence of paranormal phenomena as gathered by other people, interview witnesses, and of course cap off each episode with a ghost hunt.   We want to showcase ghost hunting groups all across north America; working alongside them, and giving everyone a chance to see first-hand all the methodologies and techniques these different teams from different regions use.   Think SyFy’s “Ghost Hunters” but with a different team each week.  We think this will be a great opportunity for teams to not only get exposure and recognition from a national and international on-line audience, but share their techniques and tricks they have learned along the way.

And this is where you can help and be a part of this ambitious project!

To start off, we’re going to need locations!  Lots of them.   If you have access to a particular hotspot where you’ve captured good evidence in the past, we want you to take us there! If you’re a member of a team that would like to possibly be featured in a future episode, get in touch with us! Or if your simply an arm chair variety ghost hunter and there is an intriguing location you’d like to see us explore, let us know by emailing us at production@ghosthounds.tv

Secondly, we need you to spread the word far and wide! We already have a website setup at ghosthounds.tv, along with Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter accounts, and of course a YouTube channel where each webisode will premiere and be archived.  Please friend/follow us on each of these sites, and share the URLs with all your friends.

Then there are behind the scenes jobs you can help with – web site updates, graphics design, pre and post production, location coordination, pretty much anything you might have an interest in helping with – we’d love to have you on board.

So thats about it for now! Please friend/follow us on FacebookMySpace, and Twitter, subscribe to our YouTube channel, and check out the website http://ghosthounds.tv for more info!

We’ll be posting more info in the coming weeks, so keep a look out for updates!

And we’ll see you on the road soon!

“Avatar” the review

Went to see the James Cameron film “Avatar” with Marley last night.  We opted to see it in 3-D  and we were glad we did.  The visuals were stunning by themselves.  In 3-D… well you owe it to yourself to see this film in 3-D.

I really enjoyed this film.  It held up to the hype we’ve been reading about for the last month.  But all the time I was watching, I couldn’t help but think “this story is SO familiar… where have I seen/read this before?”

At the conclusion of the film, Marley nailed it.  She said “That had a lot of ‘Dances with Wolves’ in it!”  BINGO!  Immediately the parallels of the two films started flooding in…

military man sent to a remote outpost because he had nothing to live for… CHECK

has seemingly inexplicable spiritual connection to local indigenous wildlife… CHECK

makes friends with the primitive, native tribe… CHECK

learns their ways…  CHECK

falls in love with fiercely independant daughter of tribal leader… CHECK

after proving himself, is accepted into their tribe as one of their own… CHECK

faces onslaught from the military he was serving, but deserted… CHECK

hero collects firearms and distributes them to natives to fight…  CHECK

chooses to fight along side native tribe against white man invaders trying to take natural resources … CHECK

This list could probably go on and on and on…  I’m not saying that Cameron ripped off Kevin Costner.  Well… on 2′nd thought, maybe he did?  The parallels between the two stories are glaringly obvious, and yet they are entirely different stories.  But yet they are the same.  Or in the words of my author girlfriend…  ”It is the same f-ing movie!”

But in the end, are there really any truly original stories left to be told?  Not really.  Everything borrows “inspiration” from stories before.  ”Lather, rinse, repeat”.

With that said, I think you will enjoy Avatar.  But go out and rent “Dances With Wolves” as well – another great film.  Then compare them together.

Google Web Alert for: “patrick burns”

If you’re not aware, there is a nifty feature from Google (who else?) that allows you to be emailed a notification when their search engine robots come across a string of words that you specify.

If you want to create your own google alerts for yourself, or perhaps your team, go here…
http://www.google.com/alerts

I’ve created an alert for the string “patrick burns” simply because I’m curious as to what people are postin’ about me out there! =)

Now note that there are (of course) other people in the world that share the name Patrick Burns with me. Obviously Google doesn’t know who is who – its simply been instructed to email me a link anytime the string “patrick burns” comes up on a web page they spider. Though I COULD make the search string more specific, by adding “ghost” and “paranormal” or “haunting evidence” to the key words. But on the off-chance that none of those words appear in a discussion aboiut me, I choose not to be so restrictive in what triggers an alert. In doing so, I get a LOT more alerts from everyone else that shares my name.

And let me tell ya… there are some interesting Patrick Burns’ out there! Here is a quick, amusing sample of what “Patrick Burns” has been up to!

Happy New Year!

Just wanted to post here quickly and say that I hope all of my friends and fans had a joyous holiday season.  I know we all look forward to 2010 and the future and hope that it will be “better” than 2009.

But how do we define “better”?  As I posted to my good friend Reese Christians Facebook Wall

“I take the good AND the bad. Sure – there were downturns for me in 2009, and I’m no better off financially than I was a year ago at this time. On the OTHER hand, I’ve got someone in my life now that means the world to me, and had the most AMAZING road trips and adventures with her in 2009!! So while I faltered and stumbled in some areas last year, I also prospered in other parts of my life!

Saying one year is “better” or “worse” than another year is like saying “hot is better than cold” – for certain things, yes. For others, no.

I think over-all when you reflect back, you have to say there was good AND bad in ANY given year of your life, and even if it seemed completely lousy, the “bad” things make us grow as people, so its not all bad after all.”

Just a little New Years “wisdom” from someone with a PhD in Life from Hard Knocks University! ;)
